| Karthik Rao was appointed Managing Director for Nielsen’s Greater China business on 31 March 2011. In this role, he reports directly to Yan Xuan, President of Nielsen Greater China. Hiskey responsibilities include driving commercial strategy, new business development and client service.
Prior to his current role, Karthik was Managing Director, Consumer Research and BASES, covering Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, Greater China and India, where he led efforts to transform client engagement and helped drive significant growth in the last 12 months..
Karthik started his career at The Nielsen Company in 2000, working in the BASES business, based in Cincinnati (USA) for six years. During this time, he was a consultant to S.C. Johnson, managing a team to deliver insights for three categories in the client’s portfolio. He then led the BASES business in Japan for two years, and subsequently assumed responsibilities for BASES in the Asia Pacific region in 2008.
Prior to joining Nielsen in 2000, Karthik spent several years with Ogilvy & Mather Advertising in India.Karthik is a graduate of India’s Loyola College, where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in economics. He also received an MBA from Illinois State University in the USA.
